I have never ran so much.we were diligent and took bug spray (thinking we we were covered) confidently anchored our boat (Best decision to rent our own boat). Negative: Biting Flies. We read the reviews and knew that biting flies was going to be a potential issue. Husband caught about 6 fish ( we did catch release just because we had a decent drive). Positive: LOVE LOVE renting a boat and exploring the Lagoon. I would also check the weather diligently before you try to go, we barely got passed by a huge storm and it would suck to have to cut the day early. We saw a bunch of fish and the shells there are huge! Even found a hermit crab, which we did let go. ![]() On the Gulf side you can boogie board, snorkel and find shells to bring home. Make sure to bring food and drinks, there is nothing on the island, not even bathrooms. You have until 5 o’clock to hang out there. Once on the Gulf side, choose a spot and set up! It didn’t get busy at all while we were there. ![]() People park their boats there and hang out. The side the boat docks on sees a lot of local traffic. Once there, you can either stay where the boat docks or walk about 10-15 minutes to the Gulf side. ![]() The ride is about 10 minutes across to Shell Island. The bus ride is about 5 minutes down to the dock where you get on the ferry. They have a shop where you check in, get your ferry tickets, and where you can buy souvenirs, snorkel equipment, and rent umbrellas and chairs if you need to. Andrews Park, make sure you get there a little early in case there is a line to get into the actual park. This turned out to be an awesome little trip even though we were definitely hesitant to do it.
